About the Event
Lucy S. Dawidowicz’s The War Against the Jews, 1933-1945 (1975), was the standard book on the Holocaust in the postwar years for many American Jews. Less known, however, is the degree to which Dawidowicz’s background in diaspora nationalism and Yiddish culture—coupled with two fateful trips to Europe before and after the war--influenced her move from youthful communism to liberalism to neo-conservatism within the milieu of New York Jewish intellectuals in the 1970s and 80s. Join us for a webinar discussion with Nancy Sinkoff, whose new book on Lucy Dawidowicz, From Left to Right: Lucy S. Dawidowicz, the New York Intellectuals, and the Politics of Jewish History, is the first biography of this fascinating scholar whose life was a vital link between the European and U.S. diasporas, and a window into the major events and issues of twentieth-century Jewish life.
